HOW TO DEFINE YOUR OWN SUCCESS
People define success in different ways depending on their concepts; for some people it is the amount of wealth the can accumulate, for others it is the height of academic exposure; for students it could be coming out with good grades but either ways, it is important for you to define your own success and this has being quite challenging for some individuals. Below is a simple, basic guide on how you can define your own success.
First Picture What Success Is To You:
This is a very simple concept. A basketball team considers themselves successful in a match if they score the most points; in the same note, a golfer considers himself successful in a game if he scores the least point. So the question is what is success to you? Does it mean making a million dollars per annum? Does it mean giving away five hundred thousand dollars to charity per annum? Whatever it is, create a mental picture and take note of it –write it down somewhere, describe it in detail.
Pay Less Attention to the Opinions of Other People:
This does not mean that you shouldn’t heed to advices… No, not at all, it is far from that! What this means is that you should not concern yourself with what people think, what they imagine, what they have to say if it will add nothing to you in some reasonable way. If you do this, your personal definition of success will not be tainted.
Make Plans and Set Targets:
To have a taste of success it is very important to make plans. It is popularly said that: “Fail to plan and you’d plan to fail.” So it is important that you make plans to achieve the picture in your head. While you plan, ensure to clear your mind of all distractions and negative energy; people would recommend meditations and yoga but whichever works best for you, adopt it but make sure you keep a clear and focused mind. As you make plans ensure to set targets in the form of milestones and/or landmarks to make it easier for you to measure your progress.
Get Into Action:
Your plans are as good as lifeless if you don’t add action to it; action is the breathe that puts life into your plans. As you add actions to your plans, you will obviously see yourself approaching the next milestone/landmark and progressively you will draw closer to the wonderful picture of success that you have created in your mind.
Don’t Ever Give Up:
As you approach each milestone and it seems difficult to reach as you move forward; you should bear in mind that your much anticipated success is somewhere close by, don’t turn your back just yet –try a little harder and hold on a little longer. Always take a glimpse on the paper that you wrote the description of your anticipated success, it serves as a reminder of what your end result should look like.
At this point there is every tendency that the picture in your mind is being blurred, which is why it is advised that you describe it on paper when it was fresh. Keep both pictures close to you –mental and paper.
Look Back, How Far Have You Gone?
If you asked this question and realize that you are yet to arrive at your destination; don’t stop, keep moving. When you reach your set success, you will recognize it because you have a mental picture of it. For instance, if being successful to you meant owning a house at Perth and a happy family; when you get successful you will know because you’d be living in your house at Perth with your happy family by then –just as you have pictured.
It’s that simple.
